If something like an accident almost happens,
you can say it is “close, but no cigar."
シガーとは、葉巻タバコのこと。お祝いやうまく優勝できた時などに
これが配られるため、上手くいくことのあかしとしてこの単語が使われる。
従って、“close, but no cigar."とは、「もう少しで上手くいくところだった」の意味。
発音を尋ねる時は, “HOW DO YOU SAY ‘McDonald’s’?” → 「〜は、どう言うの?」,
”HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE ‘allergy’? → 「〜はどう発音するの?」
"Blow the budget" means "spend too much money"
Ex. "We blew the budget on our wedding."
「結婚式にお金を使いすぎた」
I woke up before MY alarm WENT OFF. 「目覚ましがなる前に目が覚めた」
I'm STILL A LITTLE sleepy. 「まだ少し眠い」
相手に綴りを聞く時は?
“HOW DO YOU SPELL ‘Minneapolis’?” 「〜の綴りは?」,
”COULD YOU SPELL your name please?”
「名前の綴りを教えて頂けますか?」

新型iPadを購入しました。マスコミ報道の様に、初めは端末使用中に「発熱」
しましたが、今はその現象無くなりました。今まで第一世代iPadを使ってましたが、
画像の解像度が大幅アップした感じはしません。新型iPad対応アプリをダウン
ロードしないといけないのですね。

on the rocksは「座礁して」の意味だが、結婚についてよく使われる。

起きなさい! It's time to rise and shine !
解説: 親が寝坊している子供に対して、「もう、そろそろ起きて!」と言う時に
"Rise and shine!"となるのは、慣用表現です。
